You will need to open a local bank account for your payroll. In general, you will need to provide the following supporting documents when you open an account:

• Hong Kong Identity Card (preferable; click here for HKID card application details) or passport/travel document
• Proof of your permanent address in your country of residence (e.g. original bank statement issued in the last three months, latest driving license containing current residential address) and/or proof of your current address (e.g. tenancy agreement, phone, TV or utility bill statement within the last 3 months)
• Letter of Appointment
• Certifying letter from your Department

You may find it more convenient to open a bank account with banks that have branches near HKU. Both the HSBC and Bank of East Asia have branches and ATMs located on the campus. The Bank of China provides ATM services on the campus and has branch at Des Voeux Road West. Learn more about the banking services available on the HKU campus and near the campus here.

After opening a local bank account, please update your bank account number in the Personal and Family Data Form on HKU Portal (Site Map > Self Service > Human Resources > Personal & Family Data Form) for receiving salary from the University.
