Application Tips
Apply as soon as possible
Given that schools often have long waiting lists, you are highly recommended to apply for schools as soon as possible and before you arrive in Hong Kong. Most international schools accept applications one to two years in advance, while some even accept applications as soon as your child is born such as the Discovery Bay School, French International School, German Swiss International School and Kellett School etc.
The application deadline varies across schools, which the application deadline for different grades could be different for the same school. You are thus recommended to visit the international schools’ websites and check out their deadlines in detail.
Choices of Other HKU Professoriate Staff
A survey interviewing HKU professoriate staff from overseas was carried out. A majority of their children attend schools under English Schools Foundation, while Victoria Shanghai Academy, Hong Kong International School, Canadian International School of Hong Kong and French International School are also some common choices. Most of their children pursue IB qualification, which is the major curriculum adopted by international schools in Hong Kong.
Information Sessions & School Tours
You are highly recommended to enrol in school tours or online information sessions organised by international schools to learn more before you apply. You may visit various campus facilities and ask any questions regarding the admission process during the event.
Interview Tips
Given a competitive admission to international schools, the interview process could be challenging and complicated. Some international schools will list out the assessment format on their website, you may thus check and get prepared at an earlier stage. For younger children, interviews are usually in a casual setting. As the applicants get older, they may need to take formal assessments such as interviews and tests. Children’s reading, writing, verbal and nonverbal reasoning, and cognitive ability will be assessed. You may read more interview and assessment tips from schooling agencies.
